Creative wellness
AWSC 2023 Gallery
The four walls of the Art Wellness Studio and Clinic witness many things. They witness the joy, pride and frustrations of our playful explorations and curiosities. They behold every smell, texture and sound that accompanies our art-making. Above all, these walls hold a space that is dedicated to creative wellness. This past summer we asked ourselves, “What does creative wellness mean to me?” and as such we decided to share a selection of our creative expressions that responded to this question. This gallery is not only a rumination on creativity and self-expression but also a celebration of the community that is ever-so-present in our studio.
*NOTE: The artwork shown in this online exhibit was self-selected by AWSC group members who chose to participate. All artwork shown is property of the artist and may not be reproduced or used without their consent.
Ooh La La, by Adi, April 2023
“This piece was created by crushing chalk pastels into the paper and jumping on them. The dust was finger painted into the branches coming up from the earth to represent sexual energy.”
Pain, By Herb Clark, July 2023
“These are the first three pieces I created in Art Wellness, and they represent ‘outsider’ or untrained art. Painting, writing or doing something creative is inspiring for me. There is a great deal of gratification and unpredictability when I create.”

Flashy Fish, By RCH
“Done playing with natural paints made out of cocoa, blueberries, turmeric, raspberries and more. It smelled wonderful!”
Sunflowers, By RCH
“Pure hand printing and finger painting. Felt great to play with the smooth texture and metallic finishes.”
Flamboyant Flamingo, By RCH
“Inspired by picking the word ‘courage’ from a box! My inner child said, “Ou! Courage to paint a door in the studio!” I loved the size of this project and the added texture with glitter and artificial flowers on the tail!”
Perfectly ok, By Philip Poppy
A reflection on creative wellness: “You let us know of the all-okayness of us touching paintlies in all ways. Every where all over and, for blinking scrap moments, it stopped my bleaking heart-weeps. Paint-brush coloured dabblings and wires, carefully embroidered stitches, beads, beach scraps, dried flowers & dyes, all floated me to new furthers that are peacefuler, more colourful and illustriously quieter than the loudly silent of my black-dark-grims.”
